Buffering battery systems are going to become one of the main shock absorbers of the electric grid. Not because batteries magically “create” power, but because they change when and how power is pulled from the grid. That matters enormously when the new loads are spiky, concentrated, and impatient: EV fast charging, ultra-fast charging, and AI data centers will place huge demands on the grid.
I think companies that market buffering batteries and buffering battery networks will be a huge beneficiary of the increased demand on electric grids from AI data centers and the increase in ultra fast EV charging.
$NIO already has a network of almost 4000 battery stations that can be used as grid buffers and stabilizers as well as re-electrifying EVs. They should reach 5000 by the end of 2027.
