Saab has secured a contract from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to supply 16 Gripen E fighter jets for Ukraine in a deal valued at approximately SEK 24.6 billion (about
$2.6 billion). The order will be booked in the third quarter of 2026, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2030.
In addition to the aircraft, the agreement includes spare parts, logistics support, and related equipment, providing Ukraine with a broader package to support the operation and maintenance of the fighters over time.
The Gripen E is powered by the General Electric F414-GE-39E engine, a variant of GE Aerospace's F414 family. The engine provides improved thrust, fuel efficiency, and reliability compared with earlier Gripen models, making it a key component of the aircraft's enhanced performance.
