Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Corp. has been awarded a
$400 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to supply grain-oriented electrical steel, according to the Defense Logistics Agency.
The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract runs for five years and is scheduled for completion on September 8, 2030, with no option periods included.
The award was issued through a sole-source procurement process. Cleveland-Cliffs, based in West Chester, Ohio, will provide the specialized steel for use by the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force. Funding will come from fiscal-year 2025–2029 transaction funds.
Grain-oriented electrical steel is a critical material used in transformers and electrical equipment, supporting both military and industrial applications.
