Crypto dashboards need more than a price tick. A profile lookup gives you the coin name, symbol, category, and official links so you can label charts and deep-link to docs or explorers without maintaining a separate metadata table for every asset.
The Mboum crypto profile endpoint returns that metadata for a coin key such as bitcoin, which is the slug you send on the request—not the ticker symbol you may show in the UI.
👉 To access this endpoint, you must obtain an API key: https://mboum.com/pages/api
The Crypto Profile Endpoint
Coin profiles live under GET /v1/crypto/profile. Pass a required key (for example bitcoin) when you need identity and links for a coin before or alongside a quote.
Documentation:
https://docs.mboum.com/#crypto-GETapi-v1-crypto-profile
Choosing the Request
The only documented parameter is key. Send the slug form of the asset—not the ticker—so bitcoin rather than BTC. That keeps lookups stable when you store a coin reference and later refresh name, category, and official URLs.
GET https://api.mboum.com/v1/crypto/profile?key=bitcoin
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
Sample Response
meta.key echoes the slug you sent. A shortened body looks like this:
{
"meta": { "key": "bitcoin" },
"body": {
"key": "bitcoin",
"name": "Bitcoin",
"symbol": "BTC",
"category": "Coin",
"description": "Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency...",
"dateAdded": "2013-04-28T00:00:00.000Z",
"status": 1,
"urls": {
"website": ["https://bitcoin.org/"],
"technical_doc": ["https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf"],
"explorer": ["https://blockchain.info/"],
"source_code": ["https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin"],
"message_board": [],
"chat": [],
"announcement": [],
"reddit": ["https://reddit.com/r/bitcoin"]
}
}
}
Python Example
import requests
url = "https://api.mboum.com/v1/crypto/profile"
headers = {"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"}
params = {"key": "bitcoin"}
response = requests.get(url, headers=headers, params=params)
response.raise_for_status()
payload = response.json()
print(payload.get("meta"))
body = payload["body"]
print(body["key"], body["name"], body["symbol"], body["category"])
print((body.get("urls") or {}).get("website"))
Understanding the Response
body documents these keys:
key,name,symbol,categorydescription— long text about the assetdateAdded,statusurls— object withwebsite,technical_doc,explorer,source_code,message_board,chat,announcement, andreddit
Use name and symbol for labels, and pull only the URL groups you need for deep links on a coin detail page or quote header.
Walkthrough
- Request
/v1/crypto/profilewithkey=bitcoin(or another documented slug) and your Bearer token. - Confirm
meta.keymatches what you sent, then readbody.name,body.symbol, andbody.categoryfor the header. - Attach links from
body.urlsnext to a quote, and keepdescriptionfor a detail panel rather than a compact card.
Watch for This
key is the slug you send, while body.symbol is the ticker such as BTC. description is a long text field—plan UI space accordingly and do not confuse the slug with the ticker when storing lookups.
