Google announced plans to build a new data center in Michigan in partnership with DTE Energy, committing to enable 2.7 GW of new clean energy to support the local grid.
The project, under evaluation in Van Buren Township, will add 24/7 clean power—including solar, advanced storage, and demand flexibility—through a Clean Capacity Acceleration Agreement, supporting the state’s transition away from coal while improving grid reliability.
Google said it will fully fund its electricity and infrastructure costs, aiming to protect local ratepayers and strengthen long-term grid resilience.
The company is also launching a
$10 million Energy Impact Fund to support energy affordability, home efficiency upgrades, and workforce development in Michigan, alongside a data-driven water stewardship approach to minimize environmental impact.
