Ørsted, the Danish renewable-energy company and the world’s largest offshore wind developer, has launched legal action against the Trump administration over the suspension of its
$5 billion Revolution Wind project.
On Friday, Ørsted said it will seek a court injunction to block the U.S. government’s decision to halt the project, which is located about 15 miles south of the Rhode Island coast.
“As with the August 2025 stop-work order, the Revolution Wind Project faces substantial harm from the continued lease suspension. As a result, litigation is a necessary step to protect the Project’s rights,” the company said.
Ørsted stressed that it has spent and committed billions of dollars based on a thorough regulatory review process and has met all required conditions.
The Trump administration suspended leases for five major offshore wind projects, including Revolution Wind, on Dec. 22, 2023, citing national security concerns raised by the Pentagon.
