$HES Upcoming Earnings Alert for 10/30/2024 Bearish (3.8) Hess Corporation's recent performance and outlook reveal a complex landscape influenced by external market pressures and strategic corporate developments. The company's financial metrics indicate a P/E ratio at approximately 15.4, aligning closely with the industry average of 16.2. However, the anticipated earnings per share (EPS) growth, projected at a modest 3% for the upcoming quarter, reflects challenges amid declining crude oil prices and rising operational costs. Revenue forecasts for Q3 suggest a contraction, further compounded by geopolitical tensions which, while potentially beneficial for midstream firms, present headwinds for upstream operators like Hess. Comparatively, Hess's revenue growth outpaces some peers, but concerns over input costs and pricing pressure weigh heavily on profitability. The upcoming earnings report is set against a backdrop of significant corporate activity, particularly the recent advancements in the Chevron-Hess merger, which received Federal Trade Commission (FTC) clearance. This merger could enhance Hess's market positioning but raises questions about leadership stability, especially with CEO John Hess excluded from the Chevron board. Historically, Hess has demonstrated resilience in volatile markets, but analysts are cautious, with consensus estimates indicating potential earnings misses due to the aforementioned pressures. Overall, the strategic merger landscape, coupled with cost challenges and market dynamics, suggest a cautious approach to Hess's stock, with analysts closely monitoring the impact of these developments on future performance. - Funds were net buyers of $HES during the previous reporting quarter. - Top 5 funds with large holdings in $HES: * Adage Capital P $1,274MM (Market Value). $HES $CVX The FTC on Monday alleged that John Hess encouraged OPEC representatives to take action that supports higher oil prices. Hess Corp. and Chevron have agreed that they will not appoint Hess to the board in order to facilitate the completion of the merger. Chevron and Hess remain locked in a dispute with Exxon Mobil, which is claiming a right of first refusal over Hess’ lucrative oil assets in Guyana.
